The famed Walt Disney originally designed his daughter’s Beverly Hills home, which was later purchased by ‘Hart of Dixie’ actress Jamie King, and has now been reimagined by interior designer as seen on HGTV, Gabrielle Santiago.
King purchased the mid-century modern home nearly 20 years ago. Now married with two kids, she found herself in desperate need of an upgrade and sought out Santiago of Gabrielle Santiago Design.
“I observed the way the home functioned for nearly 2 months before stepping into a redesign,” Santiago says. “I wanted to see how the space was being utilized, how it felt during the night when it was empty, where the kids would put their lunch bags. It was important for me to understand the space before stepping into any sort of modification. I have to understand a space before I can ask it to accept my design.”
The original kitchen was overly metallic with white walls, cabinets, and floors, accompanied by stainless steel counters and appliances. Now, reimagined by Santiago, the kitchen radiates with warmth from the pink custom concrete countertops and a custom brass sink made by Clifford Thompson, all respectfully intertwined with hints of white and brass accents.
(Santiago who is known for her Feng Shui practices and custom design observed the functionality of the household and quickly realized the home needed warmth.)
Knowing the heart of home, the kitchen, was in need of warmth, Santiago also brought in wooden cabinets and she continued the wood through the board paneling up the back wall to compliment the nature of the large-scaled windows and custom brass cabinetry that surrounds the GE Cafe appliances.
The warmth of the small space now allows there to be fun little pops throughout the kitchen without compromising the view of the Beverly Hills hillside. King’s reimagined kitchen space is truly a modern design dream come true.
